Question: What is harmful about silica gel?
Answer: Silica gel is not toxic to humans. There is a warning sign on the packaging because it is considered a choking hazard. If children accidentally ingest silica gel, gently wipe out their mouth and give them something to drink to take away the bad taste.

Question: If my child ingests something I think is poisonous, should I give him/her milk before calling Carolinas Poison Center?
Answer: Milk is not the universal antidote. Before giving anything to drink, call Carolinas Poison Center. Some ingestions require that the stomach remain empty.

Question: Is it safe to have my carpet professionally cleaned if I have small children or pets?
Answer: It is advised that you speak with the company doing the cleaning before they begin so you know which chemicals will be used.

Question: When I call Carolinas Poison Center, what information will I need to provide?
Answer: You will need to provide the following information:
   · Patient's Age
   · Patient's Weight
   · Patient's Medical History
   · Type of Exposure: Was it inhaled? Ingested? Did it get on skin or in eyes?
   · Time of Exposure
   · Symptoms
   · Product Information - have container available
   · Telephone Number

Question: Why do I have to provide my telephone number?
Answer: If the line gets disconnected, we need to have a number to call back so we can ensure that the patient gets treated.
